Silence… the gentle whisper of the sea breeze… silence again. A sudden splash of a dolphin jumping in the distance followed by soft splashes of water hitting the bottom of the boat. The creak of the wood of the boat while it rocks delicately from side to side. The swoosh of a group of pelicans gliding overhead. Sea breeze again. Silence.
The cycle repeats, again and again. You could stay there forever, simply admiring, feeling its calm, until the sun sets behind the rugged line of mountains. A boundary between the deep, intense blue of the ocean and the warm ochres and browns of the land.
This is Bahía de los Ángeles, in Baja California, Mexico. In English, it translates to Bay of the Angels—and standing there, taking it all in, I think I understand why they named it like that. A place filled with wildlife and beauty: Sea lions, pelicans, dolphins, whale sharks against a stunning backdrop of the most intense colors, mountains and misty mornings like the one of the photo: a pelican fishing in the calmness of a heavenly bay in Baja California.
