Hello, I’m Alejandro Moreno de Carlos (yes I know, we Spanish people always with such long names)
I’m a full-time travel and lifestyle photographer who has been traveling and shooting photos around the world for the past 10 years, visiting more than 50 countries and 4 continents along the way. You can check my photography portfolio here in case you’re intrigued on what I do: www.alejandromcb.com
To be honest I’ve been travelling since much earlier than those 10 years. I was raised and taught to be a curious and “adventurous” soul since very little and had traveled a lot in my early years. We can say, I was bit by the travel bug early on, but didn’t have the heavy-fancy camera part to document everything on those days.
My passion for traveling and adventure was such, that there was simply no other option to build my career and job around it. After graduating university and a very short period of 3 months trying to be a normal person, working in a regular job, in a regular office trying to fit the mold in society, I realized I was already an early on misfit. There was no hope for me.
Packed my backpack, quit that real world job and went on a 7 month travel around the world and never looked back again since then. That trip changed my life forever, transforming my profession, my life, my way of thinking. For the good and the bad, I just couldn’t fit never again in the mold. Since then I’ve been hustling and working hard towards the dream of living out of what I love. There was no other option. It’s not an easy task and has had and still has it’s constant ups and downs. But hey, after all, it got to the point where I could technically say I make a full-time “semi-living” out of photography. A professional photographer? (“ok ok…take it easy buddy”)
Anyway I always work hard to challenge myself and get out of my comfort zone and strive to be inspired and motivated on what I do. By the constraints of “having” to make an income I had to fall into the “not so inspiring” side of photography quite often and do a bit of purely commercial work which doesn’t align that much with what I love from it. I want to take a risk and polish that part if possible doing more inspiring work.
Why all this chatter? Because this blog is basically the consequence of that or let’s better say the (hopeful) solution to that. This blog is intended to reconnect with what I love the most of traveling, photography and the whole meaning and purpose of it all. Experiencing, live and share compelling meaningful travel stories from which grow and learn as a person.
This blog is a place where I’m challenging myself to experience more, do more, travel more. A place to find, document and tell meaningful stories, forcing myself to develop my writing and storytelling skills. A place where I’ll reflect about the purpose and real value of traveling. Tell some past and new stories, adventures, experiences of my travels while documenting them visually with photography.
A journal for my life as a freelance ‘travel’ photographer with its ups and downs. It´s challenges and its rewards. Somewhere to try new things and committing myself to do more meaningful and fulfilling work. And the most important of all, making of these all a shared experience with all of you.
A place to share, connect and meet likeminded people and discuss about travel, life and everything that comes up on the way, together.
Would love to create a bit of community around this and make everyone who read this blog part of the experience in some way, active participants and indeed a real and important part of the story in ways I’m thinking about.
And why Passport Soul? Firstly because I had to pick a name. Secondly because this was the closest I found available to not feel excessively cringy (not perfect I know… haha) And thirdly: I want to think, feel, and experience travel in a more meaningful way than just crossing countries out of a checklist. A way of giving travel and our passports a deeper and more meaningful purpose than just going from point A to point B. A place to reflect about the meaning and real worth of traveling. Give our travels, passports and ourselves a soul to feel, experience and grow. A way of incorporating the traveler’s attitude, the exploration call, the open mind, the will of being amazed and all the benefits of real traveling to our everyday and “common” life. Giving a bit of “travel” attitude to our souls.
This blog is a place to do crazy things that are on my mind as well as very common ones. Hopefully you would like to hop on this wagon and follow what comes up from here! Let’s share and explore this crazy adventure together.
