Dolphins in Bahia de los Angeles, Baja California, Mexico

Aquatic friends in Baja California, Mexico

We took a boat in Bahia de los Angeles to visit the bay. We knew there was some wildlife around, but no expectations at all. It was more about the view, landscape and beautiful nearby islands that you can see on the boat trip; which to be fair is more than enough to make it absolutely worthwhile.

So when we were sailing and suddenly saw the tip of a fin coming out of the water in front of the boat, the excitement was beyond limits. We quickly went running to the front of the boat excited and nervous as if we were kids about to open the gifts on Christmas day, to see what was going on in front of the boat. We sticked our head out of the edge of the boat and there was absolute disbelief at what was happening there. About 5 dolphins following our boat and playing with it. They were so close you could literally touch them and pet them with your hand. The water was really clear so you could see them just there, inches away. They started playing with us: jumping, turning around, getting from side to side of the boat and even splashing us in the face hahaha. They were 5, 6. Each time more and more just playing with us and the boat. I couldn’t believe it. I was so extremely excited, I literally forgot about the camera I had on my hand. I was feeling like a kid running excited from one side of the boat to the other with a smile bigger than my face. When I realized I had a camera on my hand, I tried to snap a few pics, but was so excited at what I was seeing that I didn’t wanted to miss a bit of it. So I was firing without control and not even looking at the camera while I was still looking at the dolphins (not through my lens hahaha) On a very brief moment I said, “well come on, just 2 or 3 pics hahaha”. And here it is one of those shots. Then packed the camera and kept enjoying that incredible nature’s show with my eyes.

After that incredible experience, the amazing landscape and views, we thought it couldn’t get any better. Damn.. I was wrong… Shortly after we were swimming with 6 or 7 huge whale sharks and after that, we found a colony of sea lions. When we asked the captain if we could swim with them too, he said with a smile: absolutely! OMG then swimming with about 20 or 30 sea lions surrounding and playing with us… I remember saying to myself: this can’t be happening. This is unreal! This can’t be true. I couldn’t believe how amazing and unbelievable the day turned out. To top it up we ended with a gorgeous sunset sailing through beautiful secluded beaches on the islands. This day in Bahia de Los Angeles will remain as almost a dream that happened in my mind and will be remembered as one of the most special traveling experiences and memories. Wow Baja California, just wow…
